Your reimbursement for dental services for Michigan Medicaid patients is expanding

Q3 Word of Mouth newsletter 2023

To improve access to dental services, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has expanded dental benefits for adult Medicaid beneficiaries and increased rates for dental health care professionals. Additionally, the plan name, formally known as Healthy Michigan Plan, is now called UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Michigan.

What this means for you

As of Feb. 1, 2023, you’re now paid at 100% of the average commercial rate. Claims processed prior to this notice were automatically reprocessed using the new reimbursement rate.

What this means for beneficiaries

This recently redesigned benefit directly helps beneficiaries by increasing access to services, enhancing care coordination and improving health outcomes.

For beneficiaries who are 21 years and older, the following services are now covered:

  • X-rays
  • Teeth cleanings
  • Fillings
  • Extractions
  • Dentures
  • Deep teeth cleanings
