Massachusetts Medicaid: Gender-affirming care resources

New website and self-identification form designed to promote awareness of gender-diverse health care

Last updated: Nov. 17, 2022

In September 2021, MassHealth launched its Gender-Affirming Care for the MassHealth Members webpage. The page provides information and resources about MassHealth coverage for gender-affirming care and health care for members who are transgender and gender-diverse.

The webpage offers details about several important gender-affirming care topics, including:

  • Terms and concepts
  • Eligibility for care
  • Care covered by MassHealth

Self-identification form

MassHealth is also collecting information from health care professionals who want to self-identify as providers of gender-affirming care. This form provides MassHealth with information to help members find health care professionals who provide gender-affirming care.

Using the information collected, MassHealth may create a publicly available MassHealth gender-affirming care provider directory on the gender-affirming care webpage.

  • If you are an active MassHealth provider who provides gender-affirming care and would like to self-identify as such, please fill out the self-identification form. While you may fill out the form at any time, it would be helpful if you can do so by Nov. 15, 2022.
  • If you are a MassHealth provider who had previously self-identified as a MassHealth provider of gender-affirming care, but would like to be removed from this gender-affirming care provider directory before the initial posting, please email physicianservices@mass.gov with the subject line “gender-affirming care provider form removal,” by Nov. 15, 2022.

Questions?

If you have questions about the gender-affirming care provider self-identification form, email physicianservices@mass.gov with the subject line “gender-affirming care provider form."
