Louisiana 2021 Pharmacy Network Optimization

On Jan. 15, 2021, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan in Louisiana will introduce a new pharmacy network, which we’ll require our Medicaid members to use for their pharmacy benefits.

This pharmacy network change won’t affect members in UnitedHealthcare commercial, UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage or UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete® plans, who can continue using their current pharmacy.

The pharmacy network

Major chains include Walgreens and Walmart, as well as other chain and independent retail pharmacy locations, other than CVS.

How you can help members transition

Members may need help with any new prescriptions or prescription refills they previously received from pharmacies that are no longer in our network.

To provide guidance to these members, you can search for a participating pharmacy in the Louisiana pharmacy network after Jan. 15. Go to UHCCommunityPlan.com > Find a Pharmacy Lookup Tool > OptumRx Pharmacy Locator > Enter ZIP Code.

How we’re informing members

We’re sending letters to Medicaid members who may need to change pharmacies. These letters will include step-by-step instructions on how to transfer their prescriptions to a pharmacy in the new network and will provide them with the names and addresses of up to 4 in-network drugstores located near their previous pharmacy.

We’re here to help

If you have questions, please call Provider Services at 866-675-1607, or contact your designated Physician Advocate. Thank you for supporting the health care needs of Louisiana Medicaid participants.

Why we’re making this change

We created this new pharmacy network to include pharmacies that can help us achieve the federal and state goal of finding ways to help curb escalating health care costs while maintaining access to much-needed health services. The new network provides access to hundreds of leading retail drugstores across Louisiana.
