Virginia: HEDIS® data collection underway

Last modified: March 10, 2021

Beginning in January, UnitedHealthcare or health information organizations working on our behalf started contacting a random sampling of participating care providers to collect Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) information.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • This data collection is required annually by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • If your facility is contacted for HEDIS® data collection, please respond within 5 business days to indicate your preference for medical record collection.
  • If you’re contacted by UnitedHealthcare or one of the health information organizations on our behalf, please arrange to provide any requested medical records using the method most convenient for you.
  • You’re permitted to disclose protected health information (PHI) to either UnitedHealthcare or our contracted health information organizations, all of whom abide by the confidentiality and privacy rules in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Under HIPAA, you are allowed to share PHI with UnitedHealthcare or our contracted organizations without member authorization.
