UnitedHealthcare offers more flexibility with our prior authorization and notification capabilities. You can check requirements, submit requests, upload medical notes, check status and update cases — without faxing or calling.
Prior authorization letters are going digital
Over the next year, most prior authorization letters will only be available online for in-network medical health care professionals and facilities. You can access letters by signing in to the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal > Documents & Reporting > Document Vault > “View Prior Authorization Letters in Document Vault.”
Letters available in this folder support our preservice/prior authorization as well as inpatient concurrent and retrospective review processes. It contains approval, denial, lack of information, length of stay and level of care determination letters.
Instead of mail, we’ll send email notifications to the email address we have on file that new letters have been added to Document Vault and are ready for review.
This change to online delivery does not impact the clinical decisions that are currently faxed, such as inpatient concurrent denial determinations, although those letters are also available in the Document Vault.
Other digital news and updates
We’ll notify you in the future about transitioning away from mailing provider remittance advice (PRAs) and other letters as that process is developed and implemented.
