You are responsible for coordinating care for members and generating referrals to network specialists. We accept retroactive referrals signed and submitted by a participating PCP within five calendar days of the first specialist visit. Electronic referrals do not require signatures. Members may present the referral form or the electronic referral number to the specialist during the visit or you can mail the written paper referral.
Submitting & Checking Status of Referrals
You can submit referral requests to us electronically using the Referrals tool on the UnitedHealthcare provider portal. To access the tool, go to UHCprovicer.com and click on the Sign In button in the top right corner. Then click on Referrals to submit a new referral request or check the status of an existing referral.
Find a specialist: You can search for participating specialists at UHCprovider.com > Find a Care Provider. If a specialty care provider cannot be identified, call us at 877-842-3210 for assistance.
