Dental Prevention - More than Mouth Care

Last update: August 5, 2020

Correlations between dental and chronic systemic diseases have frequently been reported, particularly with respect to periodontitis with diabetes mellitus type 2 and cardiovascular disease.1 Our child and youth members have dental coverage as a benefit. That’s why we make dental available for our eligible adults as a no cost, valueadded service. STAR and STAR+PLUS members, ages 21 and older, can receive up to $500 to help cover the cost of:

  • A routine dental exam and cleaning, including full-mouth X-rays
  • Scaling and root planning, if medically necessary

They’ll also have access to a discounted fee schedule for non-covered services. Prior authorization is required and providers in our care network are the ones to deliver this service. Members in UnitedHealthcare Connected (Medicare-Medicaid Plan) are also eligible for financial coverage of these services, whether they live in the community or in a nursing facility.

If you need help securing these services for our members, please call: customer service at 888-887-9003.
