Refer your patients to a Designated Diagnostic Provider for lab services

Last update: October 7, 2021

UnitedHealthcare members may have Designated Diagnostic laboratory benefits. This laboratory benefit design is intended to help connect patients to outpatient laboratory services that meet certain criteria and cost efficiency criteria. Diagnostic lab services will be covered for these patients at the lowest cost share when delivered by a Designated Diagnostic Provider.

You can verify this benefit in the following ways:

  • Check their member ID for the Designated Diagnostic Provider icon
  • Use Point of Care Assist directly within your EMR for an eligibility check and laboratory provider search
  • Search within the Provider Portal eligibility check and use the provider directory

If your patient has this benefit design, please refer them to a Designated Diagnostic Provider.
