PCP change feature expands to additional states

Applies to Medicaid and Exchange plans

Health care professionals in additional states can now submit member-requested primary care physician (PCP) changes through UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal, instead of by fax, using the PCP change feature in the Eligibility and Benefits tool.

As states continue to become available, this functionality will be added to the Eligibility and Benefits tool based on the member search.

How to update your patient’s PCP

  • Go to UHCprovider.com and Sign In with your One Healthcare ID
  • Select Eligibility, search for the member and scroll down to view the Care Provider information
  • If the PCP needs to be updated, under the Primary Care Physician box, select Change Primary Care Physician
    • This option will only appear if that member is eligible
  • From there, follow the prompts and submit the change

For step-by-step instructions, view our guide.

What to know about PCP changes

Users can only make changes for eligible members and PCPs they are authorized to manage through their One Healthcare ID access. Member consent is required and providers cannot use this feature to remove members from their panels.

Any changes will be effective the day they’re made; however, they may take a few days to show in the portal. The member may receive a letter and a new ID card when applicable. Please note, the portal doesn’t allow you to make retroactive or future changes.
