Resources to Help You Prepare for a Challenging Influenza Season

Last update: Sept. 30, 2020

Predicting the 2020-2021 flu season impact is harder than usual given the overlap and possible increased risk of COVID-19 during this time period. To help support you during what could be a confusing time, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help your practice prepare.

Handling Both Influenza and COVID-19

We recommend you start early and order enough flu vaccine to cover your practice’s predicted needs

  • Preparing Your Office: cdc.gov > Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) > Healthcare Professionals > Preparedness Tools > Get Your Clinic Ready
  • Telemedicine: UHCprovider.com > COVID-19 Information and Resources > Telehealth Services.

Vaccinations and Resources

Please continue to encourage your patients to get vaccinated for influenza including implementation of standing orders, where possible.

  • Immunization Action Coalition (IAC): Go to immunize.org where you’ll find standing orders templates and tools, screening checklists for flu vaccine contraindications, and VISs in many language
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Find information about the flu at cdc.gov/flu.

With a potential COVID-19 vaccine becoming available, you may be asked to vaccinate and report to state immunization registries where historically you may not have done so. If you’re not already registered, you can obtain next steps by contacting your state registry at cdc.gov/vaccines/programs/iis > Contacts for IIS Immunization Records.
