Oncology prior authorization tips

Including the correct information when requesting prior authorization for your patients who have a cancer diagnosis can streamline the process for you and help ensure timely care for your patients.

When requesting prior authorization for outpatient injectable chemotherapy services, it’s important to do the following:

  • Use the Prior Authorization and Notification (PAAN) tool; prior authorization requests for Exchange plan members must be submitted electronically
  • Select the correct services: Outpatient Injectable Chemotherapy
    • For place of service, select “Outpatient”
    • Do not select “Outpatient Facility”
  • Attach all relevant clinical information for the patient
  • Include the correct phone number for the rendering care provider, so we can reach the provider if we have questions

Requesting prior authorization without this information may result in a denial or delay in approving your request.
