February 2026
February is Low Vision Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of early detection and intervention for patients with vision impairment. Low vision describes vision impairment that can’t be fully corrected with standard eyewear or medical treatment.
Approximately 7 million Americans live with vision impairment. Early intervention can make a meaningful difference in helping patients maintain independence and quality of life.
As a provider, you play a critical role in identifying patients at risk, especially those over 50 or with chronic conditions like diabetes. Early referrals to low vision specialists and vision rehabilitation programs can help patients maintain independence and quality of life. Educating patients about adaptive devices and rehabilitation strategies is equally important.
