Coverage changes for diabetes medications

Effective Sept. 1, 2022, we’ll no longer cover diabetes medications Invokana® and Invokamet® for UnitedHealthcare Individual Exchange plans, also referred to as Individual and Family plans.1

How members will be affected
We’ll continue to cover Invokana and Invokamet for members who currently receive them until Dec. 31, 2022. These members will receive a letter describing the change and medication alternatives.

New covered medications
Effective for dates of service on or after Sept. 1, 2022, we’re covering diabetes medications Farxiga® and Xigduo® XR for Individual Exchange plans.²

Medication alternatives
We routinely evaluate prescription benefit coverage to help offer affordable and effective medication options.

You may consider the following medication alternatives to Invokana and Invokamet that we cover for Individual Exchange plans:

  • Farxiga
  • Xigduo XR
  • Jardiance®
  • Synjardy®
