This change is part of efforts started in 2018 to reduce fax submissions, increase use of our digital solutions and make working with us even easier.
How to submit requests and notifications online
As an alternative to faxing, use one of the following methods:
UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal
Note: For certain services you will be presented with a series of clinical questions that may lead to a real -time approval. You can also attach supporting clinical documents directly to the case in the portal’s Prior Authorization tool.
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI): Set up EDI 278 transactions to submit prior authorization requests and admission notifications electronically.
If you’re unable to use these electronic tools, you can submit medical prior authorization requests and admission notifications by calling Provider Services at the number below.
Take full advantage of our digital solutions
While you’re in the portal, you may want to check out TrackIt, which is on the home page. TrackIt notifies you of prior authorization requests, claims, reconsiderations and appeals that need attention. It also provides a direct link to view prior authorization decision and appeal letters quickly. If you use tools on our secure portal for claims and prior authorizations, you’ll already have access to those items in TrackIt.
Note: You cannot start or submit prior authorizations using TrackIt.
