Pennsylvania Medicaid: Get ready for Jan. 1 EVV implementation

Starting Jan. 1, 2023, in-home health care professionals who provide services to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan members in Pennsylvania will be required to use an electronic visit verification (EVV) system for home health care services (HHCS).

This requirement is in accordance with the 21st Century Cures Act, which mandates that states implement an EVV system for personal care services (PCS) and HHCS. EVV has already been implemented for PCS.

Here are next steps to get ready for EVV implementation:

1. Choose your EVV vendor

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Pennsylvania uses HHAeXchange as its EVV vendor, but you may use any EVV vendor of your choice. You have 3 options for using an EVV vendor:

  • Option 1: If you don’t currently have an EVV vendor, you can use the free HHAeXchange EVV tools
  • Option 2: If you’re currently using another EVV vendor, you may continue to do so. The EVV data you collect will be routed to HHAeXchange.
  • Option 3: If you currently use HHAeXchange as your EVV vendor, you may continue to do so. Your existing system will be linked with the new service codes in scope for HHCS providers.

2. Complete the HHAeXchange questionnaire by Oct. 19

Once you select your EVV vendor, you’ll need to complete an HHAeXchange EVV questionnaire by submitting your demographic information and providing your EVV selection. Please complete this questionnaire by Oct. 19, 2022. We’ll continue to follow up with you until the survey is complete.

3. Register for a required informational session

HHAeXchange will hold informational sessions in October. The link to register for one of the sessions will be sent to the person who completes the HHAeXchange questionnaire. You’re only required to attend 1 of the following sessions:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 12 p.m. ET
  • Thursday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. ET
