New enhancements offer a simpler, more intuitive prior auth experience in the portal

We’ve enhanced the Prior Authorization and Notification tool (found in the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal) with features and functionality requested and tested by the health care professionals who use our digital tools. These updates streamline navigation and increase efficiency, making it easier for you to complete daily tasks.

What’s new

• Updated landing page: Clear, detailed task options and descriptions help you quickly find the right place to start
• Better visibility into authorization requirements: A new stop point shows when prior authorization is required, so if you’re only checking requirements, you can exit without submitting
• Improved support for Gold Card and exemption scenarios: Updated messaging appears earlier in the workflow, helping you determine whether you should continue or exit before completing unnecessary steps
• More intuitive terminology: “Flagged cases” have been renamed “followed cases”
• Improved messaging and redirection: The system now identifies when you can proceed and when submission isn’t permitted, which helps guide you to the next best step
• More targeted existing case searches: Instead of a default static view, choose a service category and search by case reference number, member or provider
• Enhanced provider search: Various improvements make it easier to add a health care professional or facility to a request (e.g., new filters, including date range and provider, available directly within the results view, a direct link to NPI Lookup directory and more)
