Primary Access Administrator TIN registration

Are you the Primary Access Administrator?

A Primary Access Administrator manages third-party access to the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal and is the first person to register on behalf of their organization. This initial registration confirms your role and validates the organization, allowing additional users to register.

To begin, review the required information to ensure a smooth registration process. Then follow the steps below to access the portal and register your tax ID number (TIN) with UnitedHealthcare.

What you’ll need to get started

  • One Healthcare ID
  • Your organization’s TIN
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number if you are a clinician or physician
  • Claim or payment information for verification, if you are the Primary Access Administrator for your organization

1. Sign in

  • Sign in to the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal with your credentials
  • Click Register your TIN

 

Or, if your access to an organization is pending, and you would like to register another TIN:

  • Click your name
  • Click Request Access

 

 

2. Select your organization type

  • Click register with my Practice

 

 

3. Enter your TIN

  • Enter your organization’s TIN

 

 

Please note

If you see an error stating that you must register your TIN using the out-of-network verification tool, please complete the registration process. For step-by-step instructions, visit our out-of-network TIN verification page.

4. Designate yourself as the Primary Access Administrator

You will need to determine if you are the Primary Access Administrator or have a different role. If you are unsure of your role, visit the Know your roles within your organization page.

 

 

5. Attest your role

 

 

6. Verify your organization

Choose one of the following methods for verification:  
 

  • Claim and member information
  • Payment information
  • U.S. mail validation (slowest method)

 

 

7. Review and confirm your account information

 

 

8. Select your job function

  • Administrative staff: Add your company name   
  • Clinician or physician: Add your National Provider Identifier (NPI) Number

 

 

9. Review and confirm your account information

  • Account information
  • Job function

 

10. Add new user(s)

  • Click Practice Management and select Manage Users
  • Select your organization
  • Select Add New User(s) 
    • Complete all required fields with new user(s) information 
      • Once invited to join your organization, new user(s) will receive an invitation to activate access

Enter information from a claim submitted to UnitedHealthcare within the last 60 days

Enter information from a claim paid by UnitedHealthcare within the last 60 days. 

 

  • If payment reference number has 2 series of numbers separated with a space:
    • Enter the first series of numbers as Series Designator Code
  • If payment reference number has only 1 series of numbers with no space:
    • Enter the entire series number as the Payment Reference Number
    • Leave Series Designated Code blank 
Where can I find my payment reference number?

The payment reference number can be found at the top of a provider remittance advice (PRA).

You will receive a letter via U.S. mail providing your security key and step-by-step instructions to complete your registration to access the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal.

 
Please note: your security key will expire 60 days from the date of the letter. It is highly recommended to complete the registration process at the time you receive your security key. If your security key expires, you can request a new one by going back through the registration flow at any time and when asked if you have received a key in the mail, answer “No” to generate a new one.
